Surin Farm certified as a Smart Farm status 2014

BANGKOK, 5 April 2013 (NNT) – The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives is promoting the concept of “Smart Farmers” in order to enhance Thailand’s agricultural sector and strengthen agro-business opportunities in the long term.

According to Agriculture Minister Yukol Limlamthong, the ministry is cooperating with Kasetsart University and the Bank of Agriculture and Agricultural Co-operatives (BAAC) in pushing forward the “Smart Farmer” Project, especially among people of the new generation. He said the project brings IT and electronics technology to the conventional agriculture sector in order to enhance production and competitiveness of Thai agricultural products.

He further stated that not just the production will be boosted, but the idea will also help save the environment as green farming techniques will be applied, teaching young farmers to be more responsible for their own society and environment.

Meanwhile, the managing director of the BAAC said the bank will give its full support to the project, particularly in terms of credit provision and training in marketing and management. The bank has already set aside an initial outlay of 500 million baht to be loaned to Thai entrepreneurs who are looking to build additional value on Thailand’s agro economy.
